From here to there...

Here are some random photos from all over Guatemala that I thought I should include on this blog. They should probably go at the end of the Guatemala photos, but since this blog publishes from the bottom up, they have the honor to come first.

The Vulcan de Agua which once destroyed most of Antigua when it drowned the village in a wave of mud. Its towering presence gives Antigua a particularly beautiful, yet threatening backdrop.

Remnants of the various earthquakes that hit Antigua, the romantic colonial village that once was Guatemala's capital.

An impressive fountain in Antigua. It's said to be one of the biggest in Central America.

The colourful church of San Andres Xepul, a village close to Xela.

A strange animal I met on a jungle hike.

A beautiful sunset at El Remate. Every evening the sun would go down in the West and then magically reappear in the East about 10 minutes later because of some strange reflection. Hmmm...?

A scorching hot waterfall in the middle of the forest. When mixed together with the chilly water underneath, it's perfect for a refreshing swim. I had never before seen a hot waterfall.

The beautiful lagoon of El Remate. I spent many hours relaxing and reading in those hammocks you see there. The water was clear and most of the time I was the only person in the lagoon.

A funky tree in the jungle.

Another beautiful sunset in El Remate. Just can't get enough of those.

The view from the main pyramid at Yaxha.
