The Pacaya Volcano

I decided to climb the Pacaya volcano which is close to Guatemala City. It was just a spur of the moment decision and I'm glad I didn't know what was awaiting me. The climb was exhausting and honestly I didn't think I'd make it . But in the end it was really cool - and scary - being on the top of a still active volcano.

The worst part of the climb: Over three hundred meters straight up, walking on ash. It's three steps up and two back down. Can you see the people climbing at the top?

The crater of the still active volcano.

Reaching the top! It was so windy that I thought I was going to fall into the crater.

Getting a bird's perspective.

Beautiful view on the way up the volcano.

The surrounding area - filled with volcanos.
